The magic of Christmas, Lisbon illuminated in 2025

Noël 2025

Lisbon has lit up its Christmas tree

The Portuguese capital has donned its festive lights for the end-of-year celebrations in 2025.

The very special lighting – energy-efficient LEDs – totals 182 km of lights! Whether traditional or modern, the 1,050 structures and 6,000 decorative objects give the streets and squares a very festive feel.

Fluffy clouds, stars of hope and Aladdin’s lamps create a magical winter wonderland.

Enough to fuel everyone’s imagination.

Passers-by and visitors can enjoy the musical moment on Rua do Carmo, between Rossio Square and Armazens do Chiado.

A highlight to the sound of ‘Jingle Bells’ or ‘Queens’: dancing and singing under the lights.

                                                                 A 30-metre Christmas tree

The Christmas tree in Praça do Comércio is undoubtedly the highlight of the show.

It stands 30 metres tall and dominates the square, whose monuments are also decorated with fairy lights.

The word ‘Lisboa’ spelled out in blue lights at its base is particularly striking. You’ll need to be patient to get your photo taken in front of it.

Another highlight of the illuminations is the enchanted castle on Praça de Camoens, in Chiado. And the façade of Armazens do Chiado, as well as the Millennium Bank.

However, other places are also waiting for Father Christmas: Saldanha, Campo Pequeno, Marquês de Pombal…

All kinds of entertainment for the festive season

The traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks display will be set off from Place du Commerce, preceded and followed by concerts.

In the meantime, enjoy strolling around and having fun.

Wonderland,

Located in Parque Eduardo VII, this is a large Christmas market featuring crafts and gastronomy, with a giant Ferris wheel, ice rink, Santa’s house and Christmas tree.

Christmas markets

In www.lisbonne-affinités.com, we are not fans of Christmas markets, which come to us from the Nordic countries. What’s more, they take up a lot of space in the squares, which become less accessible, and the ‘chalets’, which are anything but traditional, hide the lights.

But they are there. We would like to mention the one in Rossio and the one in Praça da Figueira.

Santa’s train.

It runs through Baixa to liven up the Rossio market. From Sunday to Thursday, from 3pm to 10pm. Other days, from 3pm to 11pm.

Until 21 November. And it’s free!

The Carris electric tram.

The Carris public transport company runs a Christmas tram twice an hour, mainly for schoolchildren. Two days are reserved for families with children between the ages of 3 and 10. Small financial contributions are donated to Café Joyeux, a rehabilitation institution.

                                                         An enchanting and illuminated Christmas
