Herdade dos Delgados Alentejo

Hotel dos Delgados overlooks Lake Alqueva in Mourão.

Built on the shores of the great Alqueva dam lake in the south of the Alentejo, Hotel Herdade dos Delgados enjoys a privileged location, not far from the Spanish border.

Very close to the small town of Mourão, dominated by a medieval castle, and facing the promontory of Monsaraz, which can be seen in the distance.

Delgados… because that’s the name of the owner and his sons.

The hotel’s 24 rooms all face the lake or Mourão, and have a fairly large and protected terrace.

The rooms are spacious, equipped with all comforts. Decoration in soft tones. They are separated from the corridor by heavy wooden doors, very thick, guaranteeing an excellent acoustic barrier, rare in hotels. The bathroom without a bathtub is spacious, separated from the room by a wooden screen.

Herdade dos Delgados also includes three apartments, located at the end of the S-shaped building. Two rooms are specially equipped to accommodate people with reduced mobility, and particular care has been taken to ensure that the specific layout is of the highest quality.

Careful details, felted tones, Portuguese bed linen, double bed easily convertible into a double bed, large side table, terrace furniture….

The decoration was entrusted to Pilar Paiva de Sousa, a firm located in Porto

The dos Delgados hotel complex includes a swimming pool with full access on the ground floor (the rooms are in the basement) and blends relatively well into the landscape.

It is widely open to the surrounding nature and the lake.  Equipped with a bar, the swimming pool provides direct access to the restaurant and the rest of the establishment.

The restaurant offers a menu and menus in case of pool service, as well as a more elaborate menu in the evening. Sober in appearance, it offers an inventive cuisine that gives pride of place to the region’s products (and not to be missed for cheeses and delicatessen). Delicate without being pompous.

The hotel also has an additional pavilion for events: company presentations, weddings, baptisms, etc. Far enough from the hotel itself not to disturb the guests’ rest.

The Herdade extends over 10 ha. A fitness trail is located on the lake shore. And activities are available: boats on the lake, paddle, tennis…… (developed land). Or Gym and spa……..

Small comfort detail: the hair salon on demand.

The Hotel is in a 4-star rural category.

We like

The magnificent view and the presence of nature. The layout of the complex. The terrace of the rooms. The restaurant. The swimming pool (not tested). The sobriety of the neat decoration. The “reduced mobility” layout designed with respect for the person (functional and discreet aids; wheelchair accessible shower…)

We love less.

Access to the rooms in the basement. There are indeed 3 possible stairs to reach the level of the rooms, but only one elevator, with access to the reception. Allow 2 minutes for a room at the end of S. In the night space, the vertical separation barrier between the bathroom and the room does not allow privacy, either with the room or with the terrace. Finally, the absence of a real office chair in the rooms.

Dark Sky wiew a world of stars

Hotel Herdade dos delgados is classified as a Dark Sky view hotel….. The Alentejo being one of the regions of the world where the absence of light pollution makes it possible to contemplate the celestial vault.

An extra pleasure!
