MURO Lx, festival of street art

Muro Lx, Lisbon’s street art festival, kicks off on 23 May 2025. The 6ᵉ edition of MURO LX, will be held in the São Vicente and Campolide districts of Lisbon.

The festival is organised by the city council and overseen by Galeria de Arte Urbana, which specialises in this artistic genre.

The festival will run until September with a strong theme: water and environmental sustainability.

Street art will take over the capital from 23 to 31 May, with original creations displayed in places such as the Fábrica da Água, the Musée de l’Eau and the Musée Carris.

The aim is to raise awareness of ecological issues through recycling, redesigning street furniture and customising reusable objects.

                                                 A dense and inclusive programme

The programme is packed. It includes 227 artists and 130 works of art. It also includes 21 exhibitions, 79 workshops, 41 concerts and 68 transformed buildings. This XXL programme will be complemented by film screenings, conferences, block parties and even sporting competitions.

Guest artists include Bigod, Nevercrew, João Murta, Hibashira and Hazul. The Muro Lx Festival is also open to foreign productions.

It will be welcoming, among others, the French artist Typru, who will be painting a pillar of the Liberty Bridge (to be followed on the magazine’s Instagram page).

Muro Lx is not forgetting about education and raising awareness of the year’s themes among the very young. It is organising a Mini MURO on 1ᵉʳ June, to mark International Children’s Day.

The festival will offer adapted introductory graffiti and craft workshops.

                                                              A work of memory

The rest of the Muro festival announces initiatives such as the drawing of a blue line representing the river that disappeared when the city was built, a subtle reminder of the impact of urbanisation on our environment.

New this year is the launch of VIRA craft beer, produced from water treated by the Fábrica da Água. An initiative which, through its consumption, aims to boost confidence in water treatment technologies.

Fàbrica da Água is the name given to the wastewater treatment plant in Alcantâra.
