Lisbon celebrates Christmas, with light and music

                                      The 2019 Christmas holidays are approaching.

And Lisbon has put on its glamour of light to seduce young and old alike.

A walk through the city centre is enough to make your eyes shine: a 30-metre tree in Terreiro do Paço square, a giant Christmas ball in Camoens square. Rua Augusta (Baixa) is covered with lanterns that change colours… a simple but effective decoration.

But the ambience in the city is magical, and Christmas 2019 is expected like previous Christmases.

                                              The cultural programme is in harmony.

On the program, a lot of music with concerts and choirs in churches.

December 12 Fado at the São António Museum. The evening is sold out, an additional date on the 13th is proposed.

On the 12th a delicious piano recital, in a place that is also delicious and original: the archives room of the Lisbon City Hall, Praça da República (Baixa). Alexey Shakitko for Chopin, Bach Schubert and Beethoven.  A free concert, depending on the number of seats available.

The following week, on the 15th and 18th, the choir regina coeli and the army philarmonic at 4pm at the Sé Cathédrale. On the 18th, the Metropolitana orchestra will take over Teatro São luis, for Mozart and Tchaikovsky. At 9:00 p. m.

  •  Wonderland Lisboa

    It is at Eduardo VII Park, an ice skating rink, crafts, small shops for snacks, a giant carousel, music and entertainment for the little ones… the typical diversion of the Christmas holidays.   •  Circus

    There are two of them. The circus tradition at Coliseu dos Recreios in the heart of Lisbon, the famous Christmas circus. And just as famous but in the park of nations the Circus Cardinali. The first one at the Coliseu until 26 December, the second Cardinali until 6 January.

    After chaotic beginnings, the village of Lapland, reconstituted on the seafront promenade of Algiers, promises surprises. Lights, entertainment, skating and celebration. Admission ticket between 23 and 30 euros.

  • The Christmas tram

    It is a tradition… the typical tramway of the city centre welcomes a Santa Claus tram driver and a goblin who must be a joker.
